Additional activities will include making fleece blankets for Powhatan Animal Control and conducting a roadside cleanup along 711 / Huguenot Trail (for ages 18+). Powhatan Day of Mission

by Church Staff

Did you know Manakin and St. Luke’s are the only Episcopal churches in Powhatan County? We want to help more people get to know us, and what better way to do so then living into our missions and serving our communities.

We are having a Day of Mission on Saturday, November 6. On that day, people of all ages from both congregations have the opportunity to participate in one of three ways:

  • Gathering produce at Shalom Farms for those in need
  • Filling backpacks with food for children in need
  • Helping customers “shop” at the Powhatan Food Pantry

This is a great opportunity to help the community and for us to get to know the congregants from St. Luke’s.

Those interested in participating should meet at St. Luke’s at 8:00 a.m. for coffee, muffins, prayers, and distribution of tasks. We will then go to our job sites, where we plan to volunteer from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. After, participants are invited back to Manakin for lunch at conversation from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.

To take part in our Day of Mission, sign up in Denny Hall or contact the Church Office (office@manakin.org).

Children and Youth Programs

by Church Staff

From infants to teens, Manakin offers opportunities for kids of all ages.

Nursery

Manakin is excited to have Katie Harrison as its new nursery care giver. Katie, a longtime member of the parish who has been a teacher in our Christian Formation program, has an extensive background in childhood education and is certified in first aid; youth protection training; and Medication and Ministration (MAT).

Thanks to a trio of hardworking Manakin volunteers, the church’s nursery space has been expanded. Bill Daniels, Don Marsh and Angela Marsh recently completed the work, which effectively doubles the size of our nursery.

Sunday Morning Children’s Program

Building Blocks of Faith Summer Program for children continues. The program explores the stories of the Bible, helping our children build and strengthen their faith block by block.  Through the program, children are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination and Legos or building blocks to create scenes from story and to share what those stories mean to them. The program is held every Sunday morning. Tell your friends!

Youth Trip to Wintergreen

Manakin’s senior youth will spend July 21 – 23 at Wintergreen for a Summer Retreat. This will be a time of fun, fellowship, worship, hiking, food and other activities. To learn more about the retreat, contact Julie Eliades, Manakin’s director of Christian Formation at julia.eliades@comcast.net.
