May is ALS Month

by Church Staff

By Ginger Marsh

We have two families in our Manakin family that are dealing with this disease. To show our love and support to these families, red silicone bands were blessed and distributed on Sunday, April 26. We encourage each person to wear these and let it be a reminder to pray for all families that are impacted by ALS.

Then on Sunday, May 31 after the 10:00 a.m. service and confirmation, we will be having a Chili Cook-Off in Denny Hall to benefit our families. Chili tastings will be set up around the room. Vote for the best one with your donations (cash, coins, check). The winner will receive a prize. All donations will be split and will go to each family. Both families will be present that day.

Now get ready! Individuals or teams can participate! Cook your favorite recipe – enough for everyone to taste and vote – red chili, white chicken chili, vegetarian chili. You decide. Sign up to bring a chili on the bulletin board in Denny Hall. Provided that day for all: tasting cups and spoons, salsa and chips, cornbread, plus a big cake to celebrate confirmation.

If you are interested in helping with this event and/or need an ALS bracelet, please contact the church office.

Caring for One Another

by Church Staff

By Birdie Lighthiser

Our Stephen Ministry has begun, and we ask for your prayers as we begin this new ministry. If you have any questions about this ministry, please contact the church office.

Thank you to all of you who continue to care for members of our church family who are in need or distress. So many acts of caring and kindness are done quietly without anyone knowing. If you need to send out a Prayer Vine request, know of someone who needs some meals from Gracious Gourmets, think of someone who needs a little assistance with yard work, needs a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or can use a helping hand, please contact the church office.

Join us as we exchange and share ideas about this novel set in the 1800s. We welcome everyone for a lively discussion and good fellowship. Please feel free to bring a bag supper. Dessert will be served.

We will also be discussing our book selections and schedule for the upcoming Book Club meetings, which will start again in the fall.
