The Time to Register for Camp Chanco 2015 is Now

by Church Staff

A session at Chanco is more than just a good time in the woods. Yes, there is laughter, singing, bonfires, silly skits and amazing outdoor activities, including swimming, boating, the ropes course and zip lining. But there is more. Through time spent in Christian community and lessons taught by our chaplains who are youth ministry leaders from our own diocese, your camper will have the opportunity to grow closer to God and develop his/her own faith in a unique way. There are many benefits to attending summer camp at Chanco, not the least of which are an emotionally safe environment to simply be yourself, an opportunity to be a kid spending the majority of your time outdoors and away from technological gadgets, and developing true friendships that often develop much faster as a result of living and working together in community.

Camp Chanco 2015 flier and registration forms are available at www.chanco.org.

Note: Financial assistance is always available for all youth events. Contact the Rector for more information.

Manakin’s Youth Blown Away by Ski Trip

by Church Staff

By Drew Wilson

During the weekend of Saturday, February 22, Manakin’s youth went skiing at Wintergreen. It snowed, there was a steady wind exceeding 20 mph, and there were wind gusts that pinned children and adults alike into their ski lift seats, sometimes causing them to be parallel with the ground. Apparently these are ideal skiing conditions. Except for brief breaks for lunch and to thaw their hair, the children were on the slopes all day. Some even closed down the slopes at 10:00 p.m. The kids did a great job staying together in groups and looking out for one another. Thirteen young people and five chaperones attended the ski trip. All had a wonderful time and enjoyed fine food, fellowship, and accommodations. A special thanks, as always, to Chandler Williams and Dave Millen. Without their generous hospitality, the trip would not have been possible.

by Church Staff

By Birdie Lighthiser

Our next hot lunch feeding at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church will be on Wednesday, April 29. Manakin, in partnership with Richmond Friends of the Homeless, prepares a hot meal and serves it to about 250 homeless and working poor. The program is located at 913 N. 1st Street (adjacent to Gilpin Court in the City of Richmond). Feeding is from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. Volunteers need to be there about 45 minutes early. Sign-up sheet are on the bulletin board in Denny Hall.

This is one of the many ministries of Manakin’s Outreach Committee. Reimbursement is available through Outreach for your casserole preparation. We need people to serve and people to prepare food. Thank you for the amazing support of this ministry in the past year. We feed in every month with a fifth Wednesday. So far, we have fed approximately 1,200 hungry people through this ministry. Pastoral Care Updates

by Church Staff

By Birdie Lighthiser

Manakin has four newly trained Stephen Ministers. After nine weeks(40 hours of training), we are ready to offer you our newest Pastoral Care ministry. Stephen Ministers provide Christian caregiving to people who are going through crisis. It is a lay ministry and does not take the place of our pastor. It is lay Christians ministering to Christians.

If you are not a part of our Prayer Vine, and would like to be, please contact me with your e-mail and you will be added to our list of prayer warriors. Any items of praise or requests are gladly sent out on the Prayer Vine. You may share as much, or as little, information as you feel comfortable with. Our Prayer Vine has been very busy and we constantly see the results of our prayers!

If you would like to have your name added to our list of “Gracious Gourmets”, please contact me. “Gracious Gourmets” are willing top prepare meals for people in our church family in their time of need.

Thanks for all that you do for each other at Manakin. We are truly blessed to have such a generous and caring church family!
