Choir News

by Church Staff

Our director of music was asked to play during the September meeting of the Richmond Chapter of American Guild of Organists at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond. Rita Gulliksen played Benedictus by Max Reger.

The Chancel Choir welcomes Karen Coleman. Karen sings soprano.

The Choristers (ages 8 to grade 12) rehearse each Sunday after the 9:30 a.m. worship. Please encourage your children or grandchildren to join us. It is a great opportunity to learn about music, singing, and the Episcopal liturgy.

What is a Gracious Gourmet?

by Church Staff

By Birdie Lighthiser

One big part of the Pastoral Care Committee is not only to nurture people’s spirits in their times of need, but also to nourish and nurture their bodies! We have a group of about 25 ladies (it happens to be ladies right now but men are more than welcome to volunteer!) who are contacted and asked to volunteer to deliver meals to anyone who we know needs a helping hand with meals. We have provided approximately 60 meals to parishioners in the past year. An e-mail is sent to our Gracious Gourmet list and anyone who is able to sign up for meal delivery provides this kind ministry. These generous people can prepare a homemade meal or deliver a nutritious purchased prepared meal. Meals are delivered after surgeries, during sickness, after family deaths or whenever we can be of assistance. If you have not volunteered to be a Gracious Gourmet and would like to, please contact the church office.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Adult Enrichment: Presentation on Cuba

by Church Staff

By Rev. Michael Stone

On Wednesday, October 1, following the 6:00 p.m. Healing and Eucharist Service there will be a potluck supper and an Adult Enrichment Program presented by Martha Steger. Martha will speak on “Cuba: Travel to a Long-Forbidden Island.” Before coming, if you would like to see a few of the birds of Cuba on Richmond Audubon Society’s website, go to Martha’s short article in the society’s September newsletter at www.RichmondAudubon.org. Click on “The Thrasher” newsletter shown in the middle of the homepage, and scroll down three pages to her piece followed by a link to the images taken by the tour operator (these will not be part of Martha’s presentation, as she does not own rights to the images). Come and enjoy a great presentation.

Stephen Ministry to Begin at Manakin

By Birdie Lighthiser

We will soon have lay people at Manakin who have been trained to give loving, one-on-one, Christian care to those who have suffered some sort of loss, diagnosis or trouble that they are having difficulty navigating. Stephen Ministry is beginning at Manakin. Paula Price received training this past summer to become our Stephen Leader. She will begin training our first Stephen Ministers in October. It is a 50-hour training program and should be finished by January.
