Education for Ministry Group is Forming

by Church Staff

By Paula Price

A new EfM group will be forming this summer to begin in September in addition to our Monday night group. EfM (Education for Ministry) is a program developed by the School of Theology, University of the South, for laypersons. The 26-week course guides one to explore faith and ministry through group discussion, theological reflection and study. Although it is a four-year program, commitments are for one year at a time.

First year seminar participants study the Old Testament and learn methods of theological reflection (TR). Group discussions bring the Bible study and TRs into focus about life situations and questions. EfM is not designed to lead to ordination. It is designed to explore your individual ministry and understanding of your faith through personal study and reflection.

You’re Invited: Special Guest for Book Club Meeting

by Church Staff

By Birdie Lighthiser

The Book Club’s first meeting this fall will be on Tuesday, October 7, and we will be welcoming a special guest that evening! The author of our selection for that meeting, Come August, Come Freedom, Gigi Amateau, will be joining us for a conversation. Please mark your calendars for this wonderful event, and be sure to join us and invite your friends that night. This book is classified as a young adult book but is a compelling story of the events surrounding Gabriel’s Rebellion, a slave uprising in Henrico County in 1800. Gigi lives in Richmond and did an enormous amount of research while writing this book. It is based on fact. This promises to be an evening that you do not want to miss!
